what is a network ... ?
A network is a fabric
- a system of lines or channels interconnecting or interrelating people. People connected to each other by communications lines or channels. In that way, Webster defines a network as "a usually informally interconnected group or association of persons" such as friends or professional colleagues.
As a network leader and a participant in a number of online forums and social groups, it has been my experience that the majority of members in any group are not much active, many not active at all. We wonder why so many remain silent, fail to connect with others when meeting people and expanding opportunities is so easy to do. Simple etiquette and common decency for most of us means responding when someone says hello, and yet the majority of members who join groups with a theme do not respond at all to a welcome message. Online forums, so-called chat groups, or communities dedicated to a specific topic or theme, are all places to get to know other people, to find out what others have to offer, and to share with each other, yet so many people seem to have money on their minds more than caring about other people. As a result, the Internet is flooded with spam from people who want to sell us something - people who seem to see us only as potential customers, or worse, simply "consumers" of some product. People at various stages in life, doing important work - each doing something unique - log on to the Internet seemingly with an idea that if they simply follow some guru's advice, craft a compelling message and send it to every e-mail address they can find, they will make millions, and can do it again the next day. Even people younger, some much younger, very active, producing, creating, struggling in some way, also fall into this trap, and when the day is done, what they have accomplished is adding to the guru's statistics he can use to sell another book of "secrets" to the unwary public next week, or next month, so once again he can use the proceeds to advertise how he made a hundred thousand dollars within 24 hours or some such nonsense. Yes, you can make a lot of money on the Internet, through the Internet, and I do not mean to say you cannot if you put your mind to it, but you need to understand that many of the "promises" other people are making to you are not promises at all, but are no more than carefully worded ways to get you to part with your hard-earned money, and they do not tell you until you have already paid them things like the nine months of preparation that went into making a hundred thousand dollars within 24 hours. Millions of people, each with a specific goal or purpose in life, each part of the matrix of life, each with a voice and hopes and dreams, each with something of value to contribute to the greater community, remain unknown to others, for no more reason than the advice they have been sold. The Internet is a tool you can use to connect with me, and with those millions of people, but only if you begin to put people ahead of money, and when you can do that, your income will begin to rise in ways you cannot even yet imagine.
