rights subordinate to profits
Human beings are *self-owners* and one of the most basic needs of human beings is FOOD. Gradually, incrementally, we are waking up, some of us at least, to the fact that we do NOT *have* food, we do not control our food production, and that is a very dangerous position since food is our survival. We have allowed ourselves to be lulled by the Great Society into allowing others to provide our *needs* - trapped in the "convenience" of purchasing our needs, along with our wants, and whatever else we can think of. We have bargained with the Devil and suddenly realize one day that BUYING our food is not a choice, but a requirement of us as "citizens" of the "Mouth of the World" as our nation is described by those outside its borders. No longer can we plant seeds and grow one or more crops for our sustenance, trading any excess for a variety of foods other growers produce. Today, we must in some areas pay for permits to have any space to grow food, or pass "environmental protection" regulations or defy "neighbourhood association" rules. Rarely is it possible today to harvest seeds to produce any future crop, so we must pay for seeds, and when we do so, we find little variety available for sale, and what is available has been patented so that some corporation can legally challenge our use of what grows from those seeds. Seeds available today are likely as not to be genetically engineered so that what grows from those seeds will not provide any future seeds, or if it does, will not give us seeds that will grow at all. Those same seeds at least likely as not contain chemical compounds toxic to other life forms, and if so, we do not know the long term effects on our own bodies from consuming those toxins. The possibility that what we can grow for ourselves today may provide little nutrition, or may make us sick, or even kill us, is of little concern to those who sell us the seeds. Board members of those corporations can be found sitting on the corporate boards of companies which sell "medicines" allegedly designed to "cure" us of our ills, companies that provide "medical care" otherwise known as hospitalization, and those same board members may also be found at the heads of companies manufacturing medical supplies, caskets, or providing burial and cremation services. The reality is that our "health and wellness," our "pursuit of happiness," and even our "right to life" are today all subordinate to the corporate *need* - as mandated by law - to provide profits to shareholders. .
