Response to Star Parker in 'dailycamera'

Interracial couples do get stares today, and comments, and worse.

The "focus on race" and the racial divide in our country needs to get more intense, if that *divide* is ever to be overcome.

The existence of "black millionaires ... black billionaires, black celebrities, black CEOs, accomplished black professionals" and "black governors, mayors and ... black representatives" is undeniable, and at the same time belies the unconscionable existence not only of a Black underclass, but of the economic divide in our country which continues to affect all of us.

We need to accept that "talk about race will be with us" as long as there is a need to talk about it, which will be as long as we allow some "elite" pretenders to keep us divided as a people by any "ism" - divided as a nation, divided as human beings.

One of the lessons we all need to learn is that no one else can live OUR lives for us, that no one else has any *right* to decide anything for us, no matter what our skin colour, no matter what our religion, no matter what our politics - NO ONE has ANY right to decide how you and I live or die.

There is no "class" - no "elite" - no group whatsoever which has any right to determine the course of life of another individual or especially that of an entire group - not on this planet, not today, not ever - although as we look around us, it is easy to find those who do pretend to believe they have such special rights.

In the context of this message from Star Parker
... as I read this paragraph:

"Washington lobbyists and special interests are not to blame for
single-parent homes, drugs, promiscuity, abortion and sexually
transmitted diseases, high-school dropouts and the accompanying
poverty. The conditions reflect personal decisions and can only be
addressed through personal conviction and resolve."

... whether it was intentional or not, I cannot say, but it strikes me as being pointed directly at one group and one group only.

That paragraph is, to me, a perfect example of the institutionalized racism in the United States which keeps all of us divided.

"special interests" and "single-parent homes, drugs, promiscuity, abortion and sexually transmitted diseases, high-school dropouts and the accompanying poverty" are NOT attributable to any one group of people alone, but are equally attributable to INDIVIDUALS of ALL races and beliefs.

Yet the *suggestion* contained in that paragraph, in the context of a message titled "King's legacy" which begins by talking about Dr. King's "civil-rights achievements" is that those "conditions" are exclusive to Blacks, to African Americans, and that is how we buy into the lie which continues to be handed down to us in this Twenty First Century United States of America, for which we ALL "s'pose ta be" standin'
... IF we are going to have a USA at all.
